Psarou Beach with private cabanas for guests at Mykonos Blu Grecotel

I’ll admit that I was apprehensive about Mykonos for our honeymoon. I wasn’t entirely sold and I thought it was going to be an EDM beach party experience from researching the island’s geotag on Instagram.

Much to my surprise, we absolutely LOVED Mykonos. The people are so nice in Greece and in our experience, the nicest on Mykonos. We stayed on a beach on the southern side of the island at Mykonos Blu Grecotel Hotel. It’s perfect for the traveler who loves being at the beach and visiting the busy downtown, and escaping back to their beach villa at the end of the day. We would regret not mentioning the breakfast at Mykonos Blu Gretocel. They had the MOST AMAZING BREAKFAST. We don’t even consider ourselves “breakfast people” but to this day, we still talk about how we started our mornings on the hotel’s beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the ocean, enjoying the freshest version of everything you could possibly imagine.

There were a lot of special memories for us during our time on Mykonos. One of our most favorite memories is kayaking with a family from Greece.

I realize that if you’re going to Mykonos, you’re likely looking to visit other places so I’m going to include our full Greece itinerary for Mykonos, Santorini and Athens. You can find full details about my Santorini itinerary.

10-DAY ITINERARY IN GREECE

DAY 1: Fly into Mykonos Airport. Check-in at Mykonos Blu Grecotel Hotel and relax at the resort’s private section on Psarrou beach. Grab a ride with hotel shuttle to downtown Mykonos for dinner at M-Eating
DAY 2: Rent an ATV from the hotel lobby. Explore the island and downtown. Grab a ride with the hotel shuttle to downtown Mykonos for dinner at Ling Ling.
DAY 3: Experience Mykonos by water on a Kayaking Day Tour, led by a Greek family. Grab a ride with the hotel shuttle to downtown Mykonos for dinner at Avra Restaurant.
DAY 4: Visit one of Mykonos’ many beaches and not to be missed this small family-owned vineyard, Mykonos Vioma Organic Farm. Ride your ATV to a short dinner at Andreas & Maria.
DAY 5: Depart for Santorini via the Ferry. Read my full itinerary of Santorini & Athens. Check into Kapari Natural Resort and have dinner at Kapari Wine Bar.
DAY 6: Catamaran Cruise in Santorini. Dinner at Aktaion.
DAY 7: Discover Santorini Private Tour. Instead, we had food poisoning from the Catamaran the day-before which I really don’t recommend.
DAY 8: Explore Megalochori’s shops and churches. Opt to have professional photos taken by Flytographer (use the code SNVINING for $25 off). Splurge for dinner at Lycabettus in Oia.
DAY 9: Fly to Athens. Check-in to The New Hotel. Read my full Santorini & Athens itinerary.
DAY 10: Fly Home.

When booking our trip, we intentionally arranged our time in Greece. We wanted to minimize the amount of flights we were taking; no one wants to spend their trip packing, unpacking and schlepping luggage through an airport, which is why we didn’t start our trip in Athens and just went straight to the islands. You can also reduce your time in airports by taking the ferry first class from Mykonos to Santorini. Of course, another reason why I recommend flying to the islands first is to start your trip fully unwinding instead of the hustle and bustle of Athens, especially for honeymooners.

MYKONOS

Where to stay: Mykonos Blu Grecotel in Psarou Beach. We were upgraded to the Mykonos Blu Apartment with an Ocean View. The resort’s breakfast was phenomenal and so fresh; it was served on the patio in this photo overlooking the ocean each morning.

Where to eat:

M-Eating - Unique and fun, this restaurant does an elevated twist to the traditional Greek meal. Some dishes are accompanied with eye droplets and test tubes to apply sauces and such.

Ling Ling - This is a Vegas-style restaurant in Mykonos by Hakkasan. If you’re open to trying something other than Greek food on your trip, this is Cantonese cuisine with Greek ingredients. We opted for a table in the outdoor garden. We loved the vibe and live soundtrack by local DJs.

Avra - A romantic restaurant without the frills. We loved having dinner in this lush courtyard garden, hidden in the alleys of downtown Mykonos.

Andreas & Maria - Recommended by our hotel’s bellman who says this is an authentic restaurant where the locals go and as a plus, it’s near the hotel, Mykonos Blu. This was one of our cheapest meals in Greece. Three euros will get you a glass of wine filled to the brim. Enjoy cat-watching! There were at least 10 cats wondering around the patio.

My husband Ben asks if we can just go back to Greece every year. While we know we have more of the world to explore, we will definitely return to the Greek islands at some point. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that our Greece itinerary and trip was orchestrated with the help of a Virtuoso travel agent who has planned a bazillion trips for my friends, Miss Hannah Roth of Where To Next travel agency.
